What an amazing Houghton show at Milk Studios this Fashion Week! Designer and Creative Director Katharine Polk came out with a unique blend of classic and trendy for a truly au courant runway show. At first glance, we were initially drawn to Polk's cooler choice in color palates, opting for a spectrum of rich to faint shades of blue. That chunky plaid (picture 04) in royal navy and blue-black is one of the signature designs of the collection; Polk uses the pattern in poncho, two piece, and slipdress.
One notable theme in Houghton's 2015 Spring/Summer Collection is the ever-blending line between menswear and womenswear. Specifically, note the sky blue poplin button-downs with exaggerated collar paired with cropped grey sweater. This is a definite lending of classic Americana menswear. The thick strapped leather sandals which populated the runway further this trend in borrowing from the boys.
With that being said, don't mistake Houghton's Spring line as anything but elegantly feminine. Glitter and silk dresses, lace-trimmed gowns, and see-through tops affirm that Polk's designs are true to their character. A few more particulars we enjoyed from the collection are the use of ultra-baggy trousers, flowy lace. And how could we overlook that awesome rainbow hair on model Chloe Norgaard (picture 05).
Also, we can't conclude without mentioning how lovely it was to meet the fabulous Sarah Rafferty at the show (picture 07). We were delighted by her down-to-earth sweetness. Mrs. Rafferty decided to wear one of Katharine Polk's designs, a beautifully textured white shorts-suit.
Thank you to Houghton, REP, and Milk Studios for having us at the Houghton runway show. We absolutely loved the collection, and the venue was wonderful.
