Balancing Patterns for Fall Outfits
The trend of mixing and matching patterns has made a huge resurgence: florals and stripes and plaids, oh my! Fortunately, this trend can be carried into all seasons. But for fall and winter, mixing patterns is especially daring. Pairing darker patterns such as unexpected plaids and deep leopard create a polished and attention-grabbing look. Playing with textures, like calf hair or leather, elevates your look and shows off the true fashionista that you are.
In order to create a look that appropriately mixes your favorite patterns, make sure to follow these rules. First, always pair your patterns with neutrals. Try a chambray shirt or a neutral colored blazer or handbag. You want to make a statement, but you also don’t want to make the wrong statement. Next, when selecting patterns to mix, pick one type of pattern from two of these categories: floral, animal print, stripes, or geometric. For example, you could pair a rose patterned dress with a leopard print clutch. Finally, make sure you only mix two patterns - three is just too many.
Mixing and matching patterns is here to stay, so embrace the trend and rock it with confidence!
